The Los Angeles, Californa USA, Alternative-Rock band 30 Seconds To Mars,
formed up in 2002 as a creation of vocalist + guitarist Jared Leto, an
actor known to many from the TV series "My So Called Life" and
the films "Panic Room" and "Alexander". He enlisted
the help of his brother, Shannon, on drums and was backed by guitarist
Solon Bixler and bassist Matt Wachter.
After the band opened up on a 6-week tour for Puddle
Of Mudd, signed to Immortal Records to issue, in August 2002, their
self-titled debut album; the record reached the #1 slot on Billboard's
Top Heatseekers chart and #107 on The Billboard 200. The main single,
"Capricorn (A Brand New Name)", became a Mainstream Rock top
40 hit. Bixler left the group during the album's supporting tour, he was
succeeded by the talented guitarist + keyboardist Tomo Milicevic.
Released in the summer of 2005, 30 Seconds To Mars' second full-length
CD, "A Beautiful Lie", became a worldwide success rocketing
into the top 20 in Australia and into the top 40 in U.K. and U.S. where
the disc turned platinum. The first single, "Attack", was moderately
successful reaching the #22 position on The Modern Rock chart, but its
follow-up, "The Kill", peaked at #3 on the same chart and shot
to #1 in Canada. The third single, "From Yesterday", hit #1
on The Hot Modern Rock chart and stopped one place short of the Hot Mainstream
Rock Tracks top 10. In the spring of 2007 Matt Wachter announced that
he was leaving the band to join Angels
& Airwaves, he was replaced by bass player Tim Kelleher. By the
end of that year, more then 28 months after the album's release, "A
Beautiful Lie", entered The Hot Modern Rock Tracks at #37.
30 Seconds To Mars are gearing up for the release of their new album,
titled "This Is War". The disc, which the band spent over a
year and a half making, is due out December 8, 2009. The band's rocky
relationship with their label home at Virgin Records has been well documented,
when the label filed a lawsuit against the alt-Rock group in the summer
of 2008, claiming the band refused to deliver three albums as required
by its contract. The first single off the CD is "Kings And Queens".
