Punks political Against Me! began in Gainesville, Florida USA, in 1997
when 17-year-old vocalsist+guitarist Tom Gabel performed as a solo acoustic
act, picking up shows wherever he could.
Over the years, Against Me! went through several line-up changes; Gabel
remained the only constant, however, by 2001, the current four-piece,
Gabel, guitarist James Bowman, bassist Andrew Seward and drummer Warren
Oakes, gelled, intertwined and began to grow together.
In March 2002, the group released its debut album on No Idea Resords,
"Reinventing Axl Rose".
"As The Eternal Cowboy", an album that presented a less blatant,
more instantly personal version of Against Me!, followed in November of
the next year reaching the top 40 of the U.S. Independent Albums chart.
In September 2005 they delivered their second album for Fat Wreck Chords
label, "Searching For A Former Clarity" that established them
as a major force in the Punk scene; it peaked at #9 on the Top Independent
Albums chart and reached the #141 spot on The Billboard 200.
Now, on July 10, 2007, after three well-received indie releases, Against
Me! is making its major-label debut with "New Wave" on Warner
imprint Sire Records; the album, produced by alt-Rock heavyweight Butch
Vig, includes the single "Thrash Unreal".
