America was formed by guitarist+vocalist Gerry Beckley, guitarist+vocalist Dan Peek, guitarist+vocalist & drummer Dewey Bunnel, three U.S. military brats living in London, ENGLAND; all three members first met in the late '60s, while they were attending Central High School in Hertfordshire, towards the north-west of Greater London.

The Folk-Rock trio scored a deal with Warner Bros. in 1971, then harmonized their way to #1 on the U.S. Pop Singles chart in 1972 with their debut 45, "A Horse With No Name"; the band's acoustic guitar-driven debut full-length disc, "America", also peaked at #1 on the Pop Albums chart selling more than a million copies and producing one more U.S. top 10 hit single in "I Need You ". America snagged the Best New Artist Grammy Award that year and their fame quickly spread worldwide.
Preceded by their third U.S. top 10 hit, "Ventura Highway", the band's sophomore release, "Homecoming", peaked at #9 on the American Pop Albums chart in early 1973 and generated two further minor hits with "Don't Cross The River" and "Only In Your Heart".
Before the year was out the trio relased a disappointing album, "Hat Trick", which only reached #28 in U.S. and included the single "Muskrat Love", a marginal chart entry.
The unsuccessful repercussions that evolved from their third LP both commercially and otherwise were not overlooked by the band and they rebounded with 1974's "Holiday", an album which rose to #3 on the American Pop chart and yielded hits in "Tin Man" and "Lonely People" which both made Billboard's top 5.
In 1975 "Hearts" went straight to #4 on the Pop Albums chart, it included America's second #1 single, "Sister Golden Hair", as well as two minor hits: "Daisy Jane" and "Woman Tonight".
That same year, the British-American band released "America's Greatest Hits - History", which shot to #3 in U.S. and eventually went on to sell over 4 million copies.

America's new album, "Here & Now", is a two-disc set that sports 12 new songs on one disc and 12 live performances of some of their classic hits. Joining founding members Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell are featured guests including Ryan Adams, Ben Kweller, Fountains Of Wayne, Nada Surf and My Morning Jacket.
