This Socialist political Punk-Rock band was formed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
USA, in 1993 by lead singer+guitarist Justin Sane, bassist Andy Flag and
drummer Pat Thetic.
The three-piece act was scheduled to play a live radio show in their
hometown, they christened themselves Anti-Flag for the occasion.
For about three years, after forming, the group played local gigs and
finally released their debut full-length disc, "Die For The Government",
in 1996.
Shortly afterwards Andy Flag left the fold; a year later Chris Head joined
as second guitarist and in 1998 #2 became the group's permanent bass player.
The revamped Anti-Flag released its second album, "A New Kind Of
Army", in May 1999; it was around this time that the quartet was
invited by Tom Morello to play some shows with Rage
Against The Machine.
In 2002 Anti-Flag recorded "Their System Doesn't Work For You",
the first album which came out on their own new label, A-F Records, cracking
the top 30 of the Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart the following
year with "Underground Network".
A double-CD entitled "Mobilize" was issued in February of 2002,
the set featured 8 new studio tracks, 6 live recordings plus many tracks
from groups part of the A-F Records family.
They returned with their fifth album of new material in October 2003,
"The Terror State" climbed The Billboard 200 chart reaching
the #91 spot and "Turncoat" achieved a modicum of alt-Rock radio
success.
Though adamantly anti-major-label at one point in their career, Anti-Flag
finally decided to emerge from the underground and make the leap from
the indie world to the realms of RCA in April 2005 and in spring 2006
the band issued "For Blood And Empire", it includes the Hot
Modern Rock top 40 hit "The Press Corpse".
