Aqualung is the solo project of Southampton, ENGLAND-born Matt Hales.
He began playing in a cover band during his teen years and after moving
to London, he freelanced on the local Alternative-Rock Pop-Rock scene.
Aqualung's eponymous debut album was recorded in Hales' home studio and
released in the U.K. in late September 2002 on B-Unique; it peaked at
#15 on the British Albums chart and getting gold before the year's end
on the strength of the main single, "Strange And Beautiful (I'll
Put A Spell On You)", which hit #7 on the U.K. Top 40 chart.
"Still Life", followed a year later, but received little attention
and failed to dent the charts.
"Strange And Beautiful", Aqualung's first U.S. album release,
a complilation of first two albums, was released in spring 2005; the 12-track
set, which reached #108 on The Billboard 200 chart, featured the Adult
Top 40 hit single "Brighter Than Sunshine".
"Memory Man", the third LP from the alt-Rock project of Matt
Hales, was released in North-America in March 2007 through Columbia Records.
The album, which yielded the minor hit single "Pressure Suit",
peaked at #88 on The Billboard 200.
Aqualung's fourth album and third U.S. release, "Words And Music",
which Hales coproduced with his brother and musical righthand
man Ben Hales, who also provides guitar, bass and harmony vocals and cowrote
several songs, followed in October 2008; it includes the single "On
My Knees".
