Sheffield, ENGLAND's Arctic Monkeys initially featured lead singer +
guitarist Alex Turner, guitarist Jamie Cook, bassist Andy Nicholson and
drummer Matt Helders; the Alternative-Rock foursome came together in 2003
and a year later they signed a record deal with Domino.
The band's first single, "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor",
made an impressive debut at #1 on the U.K. Pop Sales chart, upon its October
2005 release, spending five weeks in the top 10. In January 2006 was released
their debut full-length CD, "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What
I'm Not", which immediately shot to the #1 position on the British
Albums chart spawning another #1 smash in "When The Sun Goes Down";
the set subsequently broke into the American Billboard Top 200 at #24
while "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor" hit #7 on The
Hot Modern Rock Tracks.
That June the band officially announced that founding member Andy Nicholson
had left the band after missing the American leg of their tour due to
fatigue; bassist Nick O'Malley was eventually brought in as
a permanent replacement.
April 2007 saw the release of the band's sophomore effort, "Favourite
Worst Nightmare" which enjoyed three consecutive weeks at #1 in U.K.
peaked at #4 in Canada and grabbed a #7 spot in the United States. It
included two British top 5 smashes: "Brianstorm" and "Fluorescent
Adolescent", as well as a top 20 hit in "Teddy Picker".
"Humbug", the third offering from Arctic Monkeys finds the
band brimming with vim, vigor and new ideas. They brought in a new production
accomplice, Queens Of The Stone
Age main-man Josh Homme, for some of the recording, he generously
hosted and produced tracks with them at his Joshua Tree studio. The disc,
which includes their new hit single "Crying Lightning", is currently
scheduled to be released in late August 2009.
