The Alternative-Rock outfit At The Drive-In was first formed in El Paso,
Texas USA, in 1994, by the duo Cedric Bixler on vocals and Jim Ward on
guitars, not long after they released an indepent EP entitled "Hell
Paso", subsequently bass player Omar Rodriguez joined for a brief
tour and in 1996 he switched to guitar, bassist Paul Hinojos and drummer
Tony Hajjar was added to the line-up.
Now as a solid five-piece, At The Drive-In, toured throughout Western
United States and that same year they caught the eye of Flipside Records
who released the band's first full-length album, "Acrobatic Tenement".
The group recorded, one year later, a 6-track EP titled "El Gran
Orgo"; in the summer of 1998 they released their second album, "In
Casino Out".
The Texan quintet then embarked on their first European tour, when they
returned to the U.S. signed for Grand Royal Records label and released
in September of 2000 "Relationship Of Command", the album featured
guest appearance by Iggy Pop and cracked
The Billboard Top 200 chart while the main track "One Armed Scissor"
hit the top 30 of The Modern Rock chart.
In 2001, Bixler and Rodriguez formed The
Mars Volta and put At The Drive-In on indefinite hiatus; consequently
Ward, Hinojos and Hajjar went on to create Sparta.
