The Ataris

This Punk-Rock Punk-Pop quartet fronted by singer+guitarist Kris Roe, was formed in 1997. Roe grew up in the Mid-Western town of Anderson, Indiana USA, he moved to California where recorded "Anywhere But Here" with ex-Lagwagon drummer Derrick Plourde, bassist Mike Davenport and guitarist John Collura.

In the following years, Plourde was replaced by Chris 'Kid' Knapp on drums. The Ataris released an EP titled "Look Forward To Failure" and the 1999's second album, "Blue Skies, Broken Hearts... Next 12 Exits".
The next year the band issued "Let It Burn" a split-album where performed the Israelian Punk-quartet named Useless ID.
The Santa Barbara-based quartet released another independent LP in 2001, after a non-stop tour sharing bills with bands like Blink-182, Social Distortion, Zebrahead, Unwritten Law.
The group's eagerly-awaited major label debut, "So Long Astoria" came out in March of 2003 on Columbia Records, it peaked at #24 on The Billboard Top 200 Albums chart spawning "In This Diary" which peaked at #11 on The Modern Rock Tracks chart, the cover-single of Don Henley's "The Boys Of Summer" which hit #2 in the same chart and entered the top 20 of The Billboard Hot 100 plus another Modern Rock top 30 hit, "The Saddest Song".
