Born Melissa Auf Der Maur on March 17, 1972 in Montreal, Quebec CANADA
to parents politician Nick Auf Der Maur and Linda Gaborieau, Montreal's
first female rock DJ.
She began playing bass and singing in local clubs, in 1994 Melissa left
her home in Montreal to join Hole after the
tragic death of previous bassist Kristen M. Pfaff, five years later she
joined The Smashing Pumpkins
to support their last album.
Auf Der Maur started recording her solo album not with one regular band
in 2001, the self-titled debut full-length came out in early 2004.
