William Patrick Corgan was born on March 17, 1967, in Chicago, Illinois
USA, he is indisputably among the most significant creative figures to
have emerged from the American Alternative-Rock scene in the early '90s.
He began playing guitar in his early teens and in the mid-80's formed
his first band. It was in 1988 that Corgan forged the legendary The
Smashing Pumpkins, the band sold more than 25 million albums and played
more than 900 concerts in 30 countries; when the band broke up in 2000,
Corgan acted as touring guitarist for New
Order and two years later assembled a new project, Zwan,
a short-lived outfit that released only one album.
Billy Corgan released his first solo album "The Future Embrace"
in June 2005; the 12-song set which debuted at #31 on The Billboard 200
included guest appearences by Cure's Robert
Smith and his longtime friend, former Pumpkins, drummer Jimmy
Chamberlin; however the lead single off the CD, "Walking Shade",
failed to chart.
Two years later Corgan and Chamberlin resurrected The
Smashing Pumpkins name and released the album "Zeitgeist".
