This Punk-Rock Alternative-Rock quartet based in Toronto, CANADA, consist
of Benjamin Kowalewicz on vocals, Ian D'Sa on guitar, Jon Gallant on bass
and Aaron Solowoniuk on drums. The group members met while still in high
school; they played for a number of years under a different name before
changing to Billy Talent, in 1998.
Their first release under the new moniker was the 2001 4-track independent
EP "Try Honesty".
Two years later, in the middle of the summer of 2003, Billy Talent issued
their self-titled debut album which climbed the Canadian Albums chart
landing at #6; it also hit #11 on Top Heatseekers chart and #194 on The
Billboard 200, Stateside, while the first single "Try Honesty"
cracked the top 30 of The Modern Rock chart; this track along with "The
Ex" and "River Below" were also a minor hits in Great Britain.
Supporting the album on the road for almost a year, the band performed
at the legendary Lollapalooza Tour on the second stage and with Jane's
Addiction.
In June 2006 the quartet released their sophomore effort entitled "Billy
Talent II" which quickly bulleted to #1 in Canada and reached the
#134 position on the U.S. Billboard Top 200 list. The CD spun off five
singles: "Devil In A Midnight Mass", which peaked at #4 on the
Canadian Top 100 chart, the European hit "Red Flag", the Canadian
Rock radio top 20 smashes "Fallen Leaves" and "Surrender"
and a minor hit with the final single, "This Suffering".
September 2008 saw Billy Talent release a charity single called "Turn
Your Back", recorded in collaboration with Pennsylvania punksters
Anti-Flag; the song debuted inside the
top 30 of the Canadian Singles chart.
The Toronto rockers will advance "Billy Talent III"'s July
14, 2009, release by unleashing first single "Rusted From The Rain".
