Formed as Mr. Crowe's Garden in 1984, by the Robinson brothers, Chris on vocals and Rich on guitar, in their native Atlanta, Georgia USA, this Southern-Rock Classic-Rock influenced outfit, eventually evolved in a five-piece band with new members, guitarist Jeff Cease, bassist Johnny Colt and drummer Steve Gorman and in the late '80s was finally re-christened The Black Crowes.

In 1990 the group released their debut album, "Shake Your Money Maker", which peaked at #4 on The Billboard 200 chart, it generated five singles that stormed The Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart: "Twice As Hard" hit #11, "Jealous Again" cracked the top 5, "Seeing Things" had nudged higher to the #2 spot and both the cover of Otis Redding's "Hard To Handle" and the acoustic ballad "She Talks To Angels" rose to the top of the chart pushing the album to triple-platinum status. They supported "Shake Your Money Maker" with an international tour which culminated in a prestigious show for Aerosmith's "Pump" tour.

The Black Crowes' second release, "The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion", marked the first change in the band's line-up with Marc Ford replacing Cease on guitar and the addition of Canadian organist Eddie Harsch; the album, which was issued in May of 1992, shot to #1 on The Billboard Top 200 Albums chart spawning an endless string of #1s Active Rock singles: "Thorn In My Pride", "Sting Me", "Hotel Illness" and "Remedy"; the latter has also entered the top 50 of the U.S. Hot 100 and the top 30 in Great Britain.

The more Blues-oriented 1994's "Amorica", reached the #11 position on The Billboard 200 Albums list while the singles "Wiser Time", "A Conspiracy" and "High Head Blues" peaked at #7, #5 and #8, respectively, on the U.S. Mainstream Rock chart, the latter two was also released in the U.K. reaching the top 30 on the Pop chart.

Their next album, "Three Snakes And One Charm", released in mid-1996, contained two excellent tracks which climbed into The Active Rock chart: "Blackberry" hit #6 and "Good Friday" peaked at #3, the singles helped to propel the group's fourth effort to #15 on The Billboard Top 200 Albums chart.

The following year, both Ford and Colt left the band; bass player Sven Pipien joined during the recording sessions for "By Your Side", this album was issued in early 1999 and entered the top 30 in U.S. while the first single, "Kickin' My Heart Around", hit #3 on The Mainstream Rock chart; "Only A Fool" followed at #7 and the final single, "Go Faster", reached #24. After the album's release the band added guitarist Audley Freed formerly of Cry Of Love.
During the summer of 2000 The Black Crowes uniquely collaborated with Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page playing together in Los Angeles, the show was captured on "Live At The Greek", a 20-track double-CD which included Zep covers and several Blues-Rock standards.

In May of 2001 the band released "Lions"; their sixth studio-LP quickly ascended into the 20 of The Billboard 200 spawning the Mainstream Rock top 10 hit "Lickin'" and "Soul Singing", which peaked at #12 on the same chart.
The following year Gorman left the band, the lead singer Chris Robinson embarked on his solo career and the band went on indefinite hiatus early in 2002.

The Black Crowes returned with a new and praised new studio album, "Warpaint", in March 2008; in the studio the Robinson bros were joined by Pipien, Gorman and newcomers Luther Dickinson on guitar and Adam MacDougall on keys. The 11-song set peaked at #5 on The Billboard 200 chart producing the Hot Mainstream Rock top 40 hit "Goodbye Daughters Of The Revolution".
