The Alternative-Rock Alternative-Metal band Breaking Benjamin formed
in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania USA, in late 2000, originally comprising
vocalist Ben Burnley, guitarist Aaron Fink, bassist Mark James Klepaski
and drummer Jeremy Hummel.
Shortly afterwards, the group, recorded their debut independent 5-track
self-titled EP and fixed the attention of Hollywood Records who signed
them and put out their first full-length CD, "Saturate", in
August of 2002; it broke into The Billboard 200 Albums chart and hit #2
on the Top Heatseekers list; the first single off the CD, "Polyamorous",
debuted at #19 on The Mainstream Rock chart and the second single cut,
"Skin", hit the top 30 in the same chart, as the group supported
the release by touring with Godsmack,
3 Doors Down and Saliva.
The Pennsylvanian quartet returned in mid-2004 with its second effort,
"We Are Not Alone", the album featured a special guest appearance
by The Smashing Pumpkins' Billy
Corgan who contributed his songwriting skills to three songs; the
album climbed into the top 20 of The Billboard 200 chart and spawed "So
Cold" which crashed into the top 3 on both Mainstream and Modern
Rock Tracks charts and also appeared on The Billboard Hot 100; the follow-up
single, "Sooner Or Later", peaked at #2 on the Active Rock chart
and at #7 on The Modern Rock airplay list; the band spent the remainder
of 2004 on the road opening for Evanescence
and Seether.
Before the year was out they recorded a new song, "Blow Me Away",
which was ultimately used for the soundtrack to the video game "Halo
2"; in the meantime Hummel was fired and replaced by Chad Szeliga
former drummer for the Ohio metallers Swithched.
They also released "Rain", early in 2005, this was the final
single off "We Are Not Alone", it made the top 30 on the Billboard's
Mainstream Rock chart.
Breaking Benjamin released their third full-length effort, "Phobia,"
in August 2006, it includes the smash single "The Diary Of Jane".
