The Omaha, Nebraska USA-based Alternative-Rock act Bright Eyes is a creation
of vocalist+guitarist & songwriter Conor Oberst who stepped onto the
music scene at the age of 14 releasing a couple of demo tapes. Shortly
after his two solo recordings, Oberst began playing with Tim Kasher, who
played with Cursive and bassis Matt Bowen
from The Faint; the three formed Commander Venus and recorded two albums,
"Do You Feel at Home?" on Saddle Creek and "The Uneventful
Vacation", on Grass Records but broke up in 1997; Oberst then launched
his new solo project: Bright Eyes.
During 1998 Conor Oberst and his ever-changing line-up of musical comrades
released two albums, "A Collection Of Songs Written And Recorded
1995-1997" and "Letting Off The Happiness".
The third full-lenght disc, "Fevers And Mirrors", followed in
May 2000.
Bright Eyes' next album, "Lifted Or The Story Is In The Soil, Keep
Your Ear To The Ground", climbed to the #2 spot on the Billboard
Top Heatseekers chart in late summer of 2002, this was the group's first
Billboard Top 200 entry at #161.
Oberst spent the following two years writing and recording new material,
he was also invited to join Bruce Springsteen
and R.E.M. on an arena tour of swing states
in advance of the presidential election.
January 2005 saw the simultaneous release of two well-received albums:
"I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning", a country-tinged mélange
of Conor's finest acoustic songs, featuring guest vocal appearances from
Emmylou Harris and Jim James from My
Morning Jacket and "Digital Ash In A Digital Urn", a more
produced, band-centric album featuring cameo appearances by Nick Zinner
of Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Both the records
climbed The Billboard 200 chart peaking at #10 and #15 respectively.
In spring 2007 Bright Eyes released his seventh full-length disc, "Cassadaga"
and the 6-track EP "Four Winds", the title cut of which is the
album's first single.
