playing music ever since the age of eight, he subsequently took up the
piano and went on to discover guitar and then drums; Cornell joined a
cover band in high school and by his late teens, met up with newly transplanted
guitarist Kim Thayil.
They started Soundgarden in 1984, Cornell
took on the duties of drumming and singing. He wrote most of the material
on the critically acclaimed, 1991 project Temple
Of The Dog, a collective of Pearl Jam
and Soundgarden members who formed
in tribute to Mother Love Bone
singer Andrew Wood, Chris Cornell duetted with Eddie Vedder on "Hunger
Strike".
In April of 1997 Soundgarden officially
disbanded; in early 1998, was released the soundtrack of the movie "Great
Expectations" on which Cornell performed "Sunshower", the
single entered both the Billboard's Rock charts reaching #8 on the Active
Rock list and the #12 slot on The Modern Rock Tracks.
In September 1999, "Euphoria Morning", his debut solo album
appeared and became a top 20 hit on The Billboard 200 chart generating
the single "Can't Change Me" which peaked at #5 on The Mainstream
Rock chart and at #7 on The Modern Rock Tracks.
Cornell's next project was to team up with ex-Rage

and drummer Brad Wilk in Audioslave,

In 2006 Chris Cornell performed the main title song, the worldwide smash
"You Know My Name", for the James Bond film "Casino Royale".

which arrived in early June 2007; the CD debuted at #17 on The Billboard
200 and included the Hot Mainstream Rock top 40 hit "No Such Thing"
as well as one more single/video, "Arms Around Your Love".
Always eclectic, always experimental, his new collaboration with super-producer
Timbaland, "Scream", takes him into fresh territory, establishing
a new sound and marking the creation of a full-length disc that breaks
all musical boundaries. The 13-song set quickly catapulted into the top
10 of the U.S. Top 200 Albums chart upon its March 2009 release.
