Singer+guitarist & songwriter Chris Isaak grew up in Stockton, California USA, where he was born on the 26th of June 1956, just three months after Elvis Presley scored his first #1 hit. Isaak spent time participating in an exchange programme at University which led him to study in Japan, there he pursued amateur boxing. When he returned to America, formed his first band, a Rockabilly act and began playing music in San Francisco clubs.

In 1985 he worked on his debut solo-album, "Silvertone", which was released on Warner Bros. Records; an eponymous LP, followed a year later, it was his first album to chart on The Billboard 200.
Isaak's breakthrough album, "Heart Shaped World", was released in 1989, its first single, "Don't Make Me Dream About You", climbed into the top 20 of The Modern Rock chart; the full-length disc rose to #7 on The Billboard Top 200 chart and reached the platinum status in 1991 when "Wicked Game" became a transatlantic success, it stormed the American charts peaking at #6 on The Billboard Hot 100, at #2 and at #10 respectively on Modern and Mainstream Rock Tracks, it also reached #10 on the Official U.K. Singles chart.
Two years later, in spring 1993, the Californian singer delivered his fourth album, "San Francisco Days"; the record reached #35 on the U.S. Top 200 chart generating "Can't Do A Thing (To Stop Me)", this was an excellent single that peaked at #7 on The Modern Rock Tracks chart.
May 1995 saw the release of the critically acclaimed "Forever Blue" which debuted at #31 on The Billboard Top 200 Albums chart producing the Modern Rock top 40 hit "Somebody's Crying", this single also reached #45 on The Billboard Hot 100 and both the single and album were nominated for Grammy awards in 1996; the second single off the CD, "Go Walking Down There", reached #32 on Billboard's Modern Rock chart; four years later another single pulled from the album, the bluesy rocker "Baby Did A Bad, Bad Thing", broke the Adult Top 40 chart, the track can be heard in Stanley Kubrick's 1999 film "Eyes Wide Shut" starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.
Isaak released his sixth studio record, "Baja Sessions", in October 1996 reaching the #33 slot on the U.S. Pop Sales chart.
The follow-up album, "Speak Of The Devil", arrived in September 1998, it didn't rise higher than #41 on The Billboard 200 chart and failed to generate a mainstream buzz.
He returned in early 2002 with "Always Got Tonight; his eighth album peaked at #24 on The Billboard Top 200 chart.

Chris Isaak released a Best Of compilation in May 2006, the set is a journey through the Stockton, native's two-decade career; it contains two brand new songs, the elegant "King Without A Castle" and the break-up exhortation "Let's Have A Party" as well as two covers including Cheap Trick's power-Pop anthem "I Want You To Want Me".
