Cold War Kids is a four-man Alternative-Rock band from Los Angeles, California
USA. Three of the four, frontman Nathan Willett, bassist Matt Maust and
guitarist Jonathan Bo Russell, met at an evangelical Christian college;
in the fall of 2004 they were joined by drummer Matt Averio and soon after
they recorded a demo which lead to a contract with Monarchy Music.
In spring 2005, the group released their debut EP, "Mulberry Street"
which was followed by two more 6-track EPs, "Up In Rags" and
"With Our Wallets Full". Cold War Kids toured relentlessly,
sometimes with the likes of Editors and
even appeared on the Lollapalooza tour. It was these sweltering live shows
and limited edition CDs that created the rapid word-of-mouth, giving birth
to a burgeoning fan base and sold-out shows in cities across the country.
The band chose Downtown Records, the young Manhattan-based home to such
talents as Gnarls Barkley and Eagles
Of Death Metal. A deal signed, the band regrouped to the studio and
recorded their debut full-length disc "Robbers & Cowards"
in a matter of weeks; the 12-song set was released in October 2006 and
by 2007 the record inched into the top 20 of the Billboard's Independent
Albums chart, they received their greatest mainstream exposure with the
leadoff single, "Hang Me Up To Dry", a good-sized hit on The
Hot Modern Rock chart where it peaked at #26.
In September 2008 Cold War Kids released "Loyalty To Loyalty",
the album splashed onto The Billboard Top 200 chart at #21 producing a
Modern Rock top 40 hit in "Something Is Not Right With Me".
