Love Michelle Harrison, was born on July 9, 1964 in San Francisco, California
USA and raised in Oregon. As a young woman, she travelled on her own to
Ireland, England and even Japan.
Love eventually returned to the United States and began singing in music
groups in the Bay Area including a project with Jennifer Finch and Kat
Bjelland of L7 and an early incarnation of Faith
No More.
In 1986 she appeared as Nancy Spungen's best friend in Alex Cox's film
"Sid And Nancy", the story of Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious
and his lover Spungen. The movie did not see much commercial success and
Love then relocated to Minneapolis where she began focusing on relaunching
her singing career; she joined a local all-female group, but soon after,
she was kicked out of the band.
With no money and no job, Love worked as a stripper in Alaska since 1989;
when she returned to Los Angeles she assembled her own group called Hole,
this Grunge Alternative-Rock band made their debut in 1991, one year later
Courtney Love married Nirvana frontman
Kurt Cobain. Rumors about the couple began circulating faster than ever
and their reported drug abuse was worthy of media mention, especially
since Love was pregnant at the time with their daughter, Frances Bean
Cobain. Child Protective Services began investigating the family and luckily
their daughter was not taken away from them.
In the spring of 1994, around a year following his daughter's birth, with
a shotgun blast to the head, Kurt Cobain committed suicide; two months
later, tragedy struck again, when bassist of Love's group, Kristen M.
Pfaff, overdosed on heroin.
After Cobain's death, Hole's success exploded
and obviously increased Love's popularity; she returned to acting in movies
such as "Feeling Minnesota", "The People Vs. Larry Flynt"
and "Man On The Moon".
1998 saw the release of Hole's most successful
album to date, "Celebrity Skin"; the band officially disbanded
in May 2002.
Courtney Love returned in early 2004 with "Mono", the single
rose to the #18 spot on The Modern Rock chart; her solo-debut album, "America's
Sweetheart", was released in February, it reached the #53 on The
Billboard Top 200 Albums chart spawning at least one more Modern Rock
top 40 single, "Hold On To Me".
