Chris Daughtry was born on December 26, 1979 in Roanoke Rapids, North
Carolina USA and was raised in Charlottesville. Daughtry and his wife,
Deanna, have been married since November 2000 and have two children. Chris
Daughtry auditioned for American Idol Season 5 in Denver Colorado with
Joe Cocker's "The Letter", portrayed as a young rocker with
Southern and Hard-Rock influences.
His post-Idol debut album, "Daughtry", was released in November
2006 on 19 Recordings/RCA Records; technically, this is not a solo album,
it's the debut of a band called Daughtry which is designed to cross over
not to the Pop market, but to the Rock community in general; the line-up
is rounded out by Chris Daughtry on vocals, Josh Steely on lead guitar,
Brian Craddock on rhythm guitar, Josh Paul on bass and Joey Barnes on
drums.
"Daughtry" hit #1 on the U.S. Billboard Top 200 Albums chart
and also debuted atop the charts in Australia and several other European
countries. The first single, "It's Not Over", quickly bulleted
into the top 5 of both The Billboard Hot 100 and The Hot Mainstream Rock
Tracks; the album, which was certified 4 x platinum in the U.S. spun off
four more solid Hot 100 hit singles: "Home", "Over You",
"Feels Like Tonight" and "What About Now" as well
as two Active-Rock radio top 30 singles, including the #6 smash "What
I Want" and "Crashed".
Daughtry's sophomore record, "Leave This Town", which was dropped
on July 14, 2009, soared to the top spot on The Billboard 200 and sold
over 269,000 copies in its first week. "No Surprise", the preceding
single, quickly catapulted into the top 20 in U.S. and Canada and was
followed by "You Don't Belong".
