This Alternative-Metal Rap-Metal multiethnic act, hails from Sacramento, California USA, started in the late '80s by high-school students vocalist Chino Moreno, guitarist Stephen Carpenter, bassist Chi Cheng and drummer Abe Cunningham.

The foursome began touring the Bay Area as the opening act for major acts such as Korn and L7; they finally inked a deal with Maverick Records in 1995 and released their debut full-length disc, "Adrenaline", in October later that year.
Two years later Deftones expanded the line-up to include turntablist Frank Delgado and recorded "Around The Fur", which cracked the top 30 of The Billboard 200 chart upon its October 1997 release; it contained the single "Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away)", their first Billboard's Active Rock top 30 hit.
The quintet resurfaced in the summer of 2000 with their breakthrough LP, "White Pony", which debuted at #3 on The Billboard Top 200 Albums chart; its first single, "Change (In The House Of Flies)", made an impact at Mainstream and Modern Rock radio as it climbs up to #9 and #3 respectively on the Billboard charts and was followed by the Modern Rock top 20 hit, "Digital Bath"; to promote the album the group toured with Godsmack and Puddle Of Mudd; at the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards, the track "Elite", won for Best Metal Performance.
The Sacramento heavy-rockers delivered their fourth album of new material in May 2003, the eponymously titled 11-track CD shot to #2 on The Billboard Top 200 chart and cemented their reputation as one of the new millennium's biggest Metal acts; the record generated the Modern Rock top 10 hit single, "Minerva". They also launched a co-headling tour with A Perfect Circle in Europe where the self-titled album peaked at #7 on the U.K. chart and climbed into the top 5 in Australia.

After a three-year silence, Deftones resurfaced in October 2006 with their fifth full studio album, "Saturday Night Wrist"; the set features a guest appearance from System Of A Down vocalist Serj Tankian on "Mein" and includes the Hot Modern Rock top 20 hit single "Hole In The Earth".
