Singer+songwriter Edie Brickell, native of Oak Cliff, Texas USA, gained
widespread commercial success when she began performing with New Bohemians,
an Alternative-Rock Folk-Rock band which consisted of guitarist Kenny
Withrow, bassist Brad Houser, percussionist John Bush and drummer Brandon
Aly.
The group first stormed onto the charts with their 1988 debut "Shooting
Rubberbands At The Stars", it peaked at #4 on The Billboard Top 200
selling over one million copies and spawning the massive hit "What
I Am" which rose to #4 on The Modern Rock Tracks and to #9 on The
Mainstream Rock chart, "What I Am" also crossed over into The
Billboard Hot 100 peaking at #7 and cracked the top 30 in Britain; the
follow-up single, "Circle", reached the #48 slot on The Billboard
Hot 100 and the final single, "Little Miss S.", hit #14 on The
Modern Rock list.
A year later Edie Brickell & New Bohemians contributed a song entitled
"A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall", to the soundtrack of the film
"Born On The Fourth Of July"; the track reached #21 on The Modern
Rock chart.
The band returned in October 1990 with "Ghost Of A Dog", their
second LP doesn't burn up the charts like its predecessors only reaching
#32 on The Billboard 200 and generated only one Modern Rock top 20 hit
with "Mama Help Me".
Shortly afterwards New Bohemians disbanded and in 1991 Edie Brickell married
legendary singer+songwriter Paul Simon; they have three children.
Brickell's comeback album, "Picture Perfect Morning", was released
in August 1994, it reached #68 on Billboard's Top 200 chart generating
a modest hit with the single "Good Times".
October 2003 saw the Texas-born singer unleash her second solo effort,
"Volcano", but the album doesn't leave a lasting impact.
In July 2006 Edie Brickell & New Bohemians released their first studio
recording in nearly 16 years: "Stranger Things", a collection
of 13 new songs including the single "One Last Time"; original
New Bohemians Brad Houser, Kenny Withrow, Brandon Aly, and John Bush joined
Brickell for the session, along with newly recruited keyboardist Carter
Albrecht.
