Alternative-Rock Folk-Rock singer+guitarist & songwriter Edwin McCain was born on January 20, 1970 in Greenville, South Carolina USA; he began his music career in the early '90s playing solo acoustic shows on the resort island of Hilton Head and gradually expanded his territory from there.

In 1993 McCain assembled a backing band consisting of guitarist Larry Chaney, bassist Scott Bannevich, saxophonist+keyboardist Craig Shields and drummer Dave Harrison and released "Solitude".
A quartet of albums on Lava/Atlantic Records followed, starting with 1995's "Honor Among Thieves" which hit #1 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart and crossed over into The Billboard 200 Sales list reaching #107; that year "Solitude", released as a single, peaked at #25 on The Mainstream Rock chart and the album was supported on the road with a full U.S. tour including opening slots for Hootie & The Blowfish.
Two years later, "Misguided Roses", reached the #73 spot on the U.S. Top 200 Albums chart highlighted by the magnificent single "I'll Be", which rose to #5 on The Billboard Hot 100.
McCain delivered his third album, "Messenger", in the summer of 1999, the record peaked at #53 on The Billboard Top 200 chart heped by the top 40 hit single "I Could Not Ask For More"; this track, also featured in the film "Message In A Bottle", achieved massive airplay on adult contemporary radio stations and eventually drove the album's sales to gold status.
2001's "Far From Over", didn't rise higher than #107 on The Billboard 200 Albums chart and only one single, "Hearts Fall", secured a modest chart placing on the U.S. Adult Contemporary chart; the second single cut, "Sun Will Rise", failed to dent the charts consequently Atlantic dropped McCain from their rooster.
In 2003, the Greenville based singer+songwriter teamed with ATC Records to release "The Austin Sessions", it reached #17 on the Billboard Top Independent Albums chart and included the single "Let It Slide".
"Scream & Whisper", his sixth album, came out in mid-2004 on DRT Entertainment, the disc peaked at #13 on the U.S. Independent Albums chart and made a brief chart appearance on The Billboard 200.

Edwin McCain returned in April 2006 with his seventh studio effort, the first for Vanguard Records, "Lost In America"; the album was preceded by the single "Gramercy Park Hotel".
