Hailing from Detroit, Michigan USA, Electric Six formed in 1996 and were
originally known as The Wildbunch eventually putting out a full-length
CD called "Rock Empire" and a few 7-inch singles on Flying Bomb
Records. Led by frontman vocalist Dick Valentine, this Alternative-Rock
band features an ever changing line-up, which may well include guitarists
Johnny Na$hinal and The Colonel, keyboardist Tait Nucleus, bass player
John R. Dequindre and drummer Percussion World.
In 2002 the sextet signed to XL Recordings and recorded the first full-length
release as Electric Six, the album entitled "Fire" was finally
released in May 2003 and brought them into the top 40 of the Billboard
Magazine's Independent Albums chart; the first single, "Danger! High
Voltage", which features The White
Stripes' Jack White on backing vocals, became a major hit in the U.K.
climbing all the way to #2, it also hit the top 10 of the Billboard Hot
Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart; two more minor hit singles followed
with "Gay Bar" and "Dance Commander". By the end of
the year, the band was dropped by XL.
Electric Six then set out to secure another record deal, writing the bulk
of what would become their second record, "Señor Smoke",
which was eventually picked up by Warner Music U.K. for a February 2005
national release, it includes the cover of Queen's
"Radio Ga-Ga" and the free internet-only single "Vibrator";
the band finally put their sophomore album out in America in February
2006.
