This Pop-Rock Alternative-Rock band was formed in the spring of 2002
by Joe King and Isaac Slade, schoolmates who grew up together in Denver,
Colorado USA and even sang in the same school choir; several years after
graduation and following stints in various local bands, the two decided
to start The Fray, with Slade on piano and King on guitar, they share
lead vocal and songwriting duties; over a period of about a year the band
progressed from a basement project to adding lead guitarist David Welsh
and then Benjamin Wysocki on drums.
2003 saw the release of the band's debut disc, the 7-track "Reason"
EP.
In September 2005 the quartet released their first full-length album,
"How To Save A Life", which peaked at #14 on The Billboard 200
chart and spawned two massive smash hits with "Over My Head (Cable
Car)" which climbed into the top 10 of The Billboard Hot 100 and
"How To Save A Life", which rose to the #3 slot on the same
chart, both of which crossed over to The Hot Modern Rock Tracks at #37
and #31, respectively. The CD went on to sell over 2 million copies in
U.S. alone and became a top 10 in Canada, a top 5 in U.K. and a #1 album
in Australia; another single, "Look After You", reached the
#59 position on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 over one year after the album's
release.
The Colorado-based rockers returned in February 2009, with their eponymously
titled sophomore effort reaching the top spot of The Billboard 200 Albums
chart in no time; the disc includes "You Found Me" another Billboard
Hot 100 top 10 hit and a Hot Modern Rock top 40 entrant for the band.
