The Alternative-Rock outfit Fuel hails from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
USA and was formed in the mid-'90s comprising of vocalist+guitarist Brett
Scallions, guitarist Carl Bell, bassist Jeff Abercrombie and drummer Kevin
Miller.
The quartet made their debut in 1996 with a self-financed EP called "Porcelain";
the disc featured an early version of "Shimmer", which became
the most requested song on several local Rock stations. The grassroots
support for the band caught the attention of Epic Records, which signed
Fuel a year later.
The band's debut full-length disc, "Sunburn", appeared in the
spring 1998 and included the smash single "Shimmer" which peaked
at #2 on The Modern Rock chart, reached the #42 spot on The Billboard
Hot 100 and helped push the album into Billboard's top 100; "Sunburn"
also yielded a decent follow-up hit in "Bittersweet" which reached
#15 and #17 on The Mainstream and Modern Rock Tracks, respectively. "Jesus
Or A Gun" made top 30 on both the same charts and finally the title-track
reached the #31 position on The Modern Rock chart.
Two and a half years later, the foursome returned with their second effort,
"Something Like Human", it rose to #17 on The Billboard Top
200 chart spawning numerous singles: the monster hit "Hemorrhage
(In My Hands)" peaked at #1 on The Modern Rock chart, at #2 on the
Active Rock list and cracked the top 30 of The Billboard Hot 100; the
second single, "Innocent", peaked at #2 and at #10 on The Modern
and The Mainstream Rock charts, respectively. "Bad Day" entered
the top 20 and "Last Time" reachad the top 30 in the same charts.
In September of 2003, Fuel, released "Natural Selection", their
third LP hit #15 on The Billboard Top 200 Albums chart spawning no less
than three Active Rock top 30 hit singles: "Million Miles",
"Won't Back Down" and the main single, "Falls On Me",
which also hit #11 on The Modern Rock chart.
However, tension mounted between the band members and Kevin Miller was
fired in 2004, he was later replaced by Tommy Stewart, formerly of Godsmack
and Lo-Pro.
When Brett Scallions left the band early in 2006, Bell and Abercrombie
asked American Idol finalist Chris Daughtry
to front the band, but he turned them down. In spring 2007, Fuel announced
that they have found their new lead singer, Toryn Green.
Fuel's new album will be titled "Angels & Devils" and it
will be available August 7; the set includes the new hit single "Wasted
Time".
