The indie Alternative-Rock act from Sunderland, ENGLAND, The Futureheads
started out as a trio in 2000 comprising vocalist+guitarist Barry Hyde,
bassist Jaff and drummer Pete Brewis.
They began to perform live in and around Newcastle and recorded a demo
plus a couple of 7-inch singles. During this time, the group's line-up
was fairly unstable, Ross Millard joined their ranks as lead singer+guitarist
and in 2001 Hyde's kid brother Dave stepped in when original drummer,
Pete Brewis, got busy with another band.
They put out two EPs, "1-2-3 Nul!" and "First Day",
on London indie Fantastic Plastic label. Their debut album, "The
Futureheads", came out on 679 recordings in July 2004, it reached
11 in the album chart and included the U.K. top 40 single, "Decent
Days And Nights" and the top 10 hit "Hounds Of Love"; before
the year was out the quartet supported Franz
Ferdinand on their North-American tour.
The Futureheads' sophomore album, "News And Tributes", was released
in May 2006. It peaked at #12 in Britain, climbed into the top 30 of the
U.S. Independent Albums chart and saw the band touring the world and continuing
to win fans and supporters with their exhilarating live shows; the main
single, "Skip To The End", was another U.K. top 30 hit for the
band but "Worry About It Later" failed to dent the upper regions
of the chart.
Embracing the Punk-Rock ethic like never before, in May 2008, The Futureheads
released their third album independently; "This Is Not The World",
includes the singles "The Beginning Of The Twist" and "Radio
Heart".
