This Punk-Rock Waldorf, Maryland USA-based outfit was founded in 1995
by the identical twins Joel and Benji Madden, lead singer and guitarist
respectively; with the addition of second guitarist Billy Martin, bassist
Paul Thomas and drummer Aaron, Good Charlotte was solidified.
The band toured with Blink-182, Bad
Religion and Lit before being signed to
Epic Records, who eventually released their self-titled debut album in
September of 2000, it generated the Modern Rock top 30 single "Little
Things".
Two years later, following the replacement of drummer Aaron with Chris
Wilson, the quintet released their breakthrough LP, "The Young And
The Hopeless"; with 3 million copies sold in U.S. alone, the set
pierced the top 10 of The Billboard Top 200 chart spawning the massive
hit "Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous", the single peaked at
#11 on The Modern Rock chart and hit the top 20 of The Billboard Hot 100;
"The Anthem" followed suit reaching the top 10 of The Modern
Rock Tracks; "Girls And Boys" was the band's second Hot 100
entry at #48 while the title-track hit the top 30 of Billboard's Modern
Rock chart; the fifth and final single from the album, "Hold On",
made it to #63 on The Billboard Hot 100.
October 2004 saw the release of the group third album, "The Chronicles
Of Life And Death", a worldwide smash which rocketed to #2 in Canada,
to #3 in U.S. and into the top 10 in Britain, but the first single, "Predictable",
didn't rise higher than #28 on The Modern Rock chart and its follow-up,
"I Just Wanna Live", failed to crack the top half of Billboard's
Hot 100.
Good Charlotte is back with their fourth studio album, "Good Morning
Revival"; the 13-song set went straight into the top 10 of The Billboard
200 and hit the top 3 of the Top Canadian Albums charts upon its spring
2007 release; it features the Hot Modern Rock top 40 hit single, "The
River", a collaboration with M. Shadows and Synyster Gates of Avenged
Sevenfold.
