Initially named Gus, this Alternative-Rock band formed at Tufts University
in Boston, Massachusetts USA. The group better known to many today as
Guster has come a long way since guitarists+vocalists Ryan Miller and
Brain Roseworcel and a sort of one-man rhythm section, percussionist Adam
Gardiner played their first gig on that campus in the fall of 1992.
Guster's debut album, "Parachute", was something of a surprise
hit for the trio, hailed as the Best Local Debut Album of 1995 by the
Boston Globe.
The band released its sophomore LP, "Goldfly", in March 1997
and their ever increasing popularity landed them a recording contract
with Sire who soon reissued their album spinning off the single "Airport
Song" which hit the top 40 of The Modern Rock Tracks chart.
Two and a half years later "Lost And Gone Forever", the third
Guster full-length disc, broke into the U.S. Top Internet Albums chart
at #5 and also made a brief appearance on The Billboard 200 list; it included
the Adult Top 40 track "Fa Fa".
The Boston-based act continued to expand their fan base by playing with
such luminaries as Dave Matthews
Band, Bob Dylan and Barkenaked
Ladies and in June 2003 released "Keep It Together" through
Reprise Records; it peaked at #35 The Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and
produced two triple-A radio hits, "Amsterdam " and "Careful
".
After the 2004's CD/DVD live combo titled, "Guster On Ice: Live
In Portland", in June 2006 the band returned with its fifth studio
album, "Ganging Up On The Sun"; it is the first to feature multi-instrumentalist
Joe Pisapia and includes the radio singles "One Man Wrecking Machine"
and "The New Underground".
