Hoobastank's origin can be traced back to Agoura Hills, California USA,
in 1994, when vocalist Doug Robb and guitarist Dan Estrin formed this
Alternative-Rock band with bassist Markku Lappalainen and drummer Chris
Hesse.
The quartet made their debut with the release of a self-titled album
in late 2001, it reached the #25 position on The Billboard Top 200 chart
and went platinum thanks to tireless touring with the likes of Incubus
and Alien Ant Farm among others
and to the heavy spin of single "Running Away", the track hit
#2 on The Modern Rock chart and reached #44 on The Billboard Hot 100;
the album also contained two more Modern Rock top 30 hits including the
top 3 "Crawling In The Dark" and "Remember Me".
Two years later, the Californian alt-Rock foursome returned with their
second effort, "The Reason", which was even more widely acclaimed,
climbing into the top 3 of The Billboard 200 and peaked at #9 on the Top
Canadian Albums chart; it generated three smashes: the Modern Rock top
10 hit "Out Of Control", "Same Direction" which rocketed
to #14 on that chart and the album had the massive multi-format hit single
in its title-track, the song rose to #2 on The Billboard Hot 100, hit
#1 on The Modern Rock Tracks and the top spot on the Triple-A airplay
charts. Lappalainen amicably decided to leave the group following the
band's 2005 summer tour.
April 2006 saw the now three-piece Hoobastank release their third full-length
CD, "Every Man For Himself", which reached the #12 spot on The
Billboard 200, spawning three singles: the ballad "If I Were You"
hit #18 on The Hot Adult Top 40 chart and grabbed a #23 spot on The Modern
Rock Tracks, "Inside Of You" debuted in the top 30 on both Hot
Modern Rock and Hot Mainstream Rock charts; "Born To Lead",
the final single to be lifted off the album, also made the Active Rock
top 30 chart.
The U.S. Hot Modern and Mainstream Rock top 30 hit, "My Turn",
the first single from the group's fourth Island Def Jam Music Group album,
"For(n)ever", marked a return to the Rock roots of the band's
first two releases; the CD, released in early 2009, climbed into the top
30 of The Billboard 200 generating an additional Hot Adult Top 40 hit
with "So Close, So Far".
