Born James Newell Osterberg, on April 21, 1947 in Ypsilanti, Michigan
USA; in the late-'60s early-'70s Iggy Pop started out as a member of The
Stooges the band that invented Punk-Rock genre; the group broke up
in 1974 because Pop and most of the members were strung out on hard drugs.
Iggy Pop got some help from his friend David Bowie who produced his first
two solo albums, they moved to Berlin in 1976 and "The Idiot"
was released one year later, the record reached the #72 in U.S. Pop Albums
chart but Iggy Pop had more success in the British chart, his first album
included the song "China Girl" made famous by Bowie a decade
later.
The second effort, "Lust For Life", was issued that same year.
Followed the 1978's live album titled "T.V. Eye" and 1979's
"New Values".
Mr. Pop, as the New York Times refers to him, continued to collaborate
with Bowie throughout the '80s releasing five album of new material and
"Choice Cuts", a compilation of songs from early LPs; "Blah
Blah Blah" contained two singles which entered the Mainstream Rock
Tracks chart: "Cry For Love" and the cover version of "Real
Wild Child".
In July of 1990 with "Brick By Brick", Pop released his best
selling album to date, the record, which featured guitarist Slash from
Guns N' Roses, generated three singles
that cracked the top 20 of The Modern Rock chart: "Livin' On The
Edge Of The Night" hit #16, "Home" rose to #2 and "Candy",
with Kate Pierson of The B-52's, climbed
into the top 5, the latter also broke The Billboard Hot 100.
The singer returned three years later with "American Caesar",
it generated the Modern Rock charting single, "Wild America".
He released "Naughty Little Doggie" in March of 1996 and 1999's
"Avenue B" to little commercial response.
Mr. Pop returned in the new millenium with "Beat 'Em Up" which
was followed two years later, in November of 2003, by "Skull Ring",
the new album featured fresh collaborations with Sum
41 for the first single "Little Know It All" and with Green
Day for two tracks "Private Hell" and "Supermarket".
