The Alternative-Metal troupe Killswitch Engage formed in Boston, Massachusetts USA, in 1999 from the ashes of New England hardcore bands; the initial line-up was Jesse Leach on vocals, Joel Stroetzel on guitar, Mike D'Antonio on bass and Adam Dutkiewitz on drums.

The band immediatly made an impact on the regional touring scene and an opening slot for In Flames attracted the attention of Ferret Music label who signed them in 2000 and released their self-titled debut album that summer.

Killswitch Engage continued to experiment with unusual combinations of ferocious sound and melodic Metal and with its fan base ballooning the band jumped to Roadrunner Records in 2001; a year later their second album, "Alive Or Just Breathing", was released. It broke into the Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart spawning the single "My Last Serenade" which was a moderate Metal-radio hit.

A few changes in the line-up followed, Howard Jones stepped in to replace Leach, Dutkiewitz switched to the guitar and they were joined behind the drum kit by newcomer Justin Foley; thus reconfigured, Killswitch Engage released its third full-length disc, the gold-certified "The End Of Heartache", which climbed to #21 on The Billboard Top 200 Albums chart while the title-song hit #31 on The Mainstream Rock Tracks.

In November 2006 the New England quintet, released their next album, "As Daylight Dies", the disc hit #32 on The Billboard 200; the first single, "My Curse", a contrast of light and dark emotions with one of the tastiest, most memorable riffs heard in years, accompanied by the emotive and anguished singing of Jones, rose to #21 on The Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks and was followed by "The Arms Of Sorrow", which reached the #30 position on the same chart.
"As Daylight Dies" was re-released in the summer of 2007 as a two-disc set with bonus tracks, most notably a cover of "Holy Diver", originally by Dio, which smashed into The Hot Mainstream Rock chart at #12.
The band's road history includes two treks on Ozzfest, stints on Warped Tour and Taste Of Chaos and having the rare ability to straddle the line between the Metal and Alternative-Rock scenes by touring with Slayer and Mastodon as easily as My Chemical Romance, The Used and UnderOATH.

Killswitch Engage are ready with their second eponymous album and their fourth for Roadrunner, which is scheduled for release on June 30.
