This Alternative-Metal group was formed in Bakersfield, California USA,
in 1992 by lead singer Jonathan Davis, guitarists James 'Munky' Shaffer
and Brian 'Head' Welch, bassist Reginald 'Fieldy' Arvizu and drummer David
Silveria.
Two years later, Korn released its self-titled debut album; although
it received very little support from critics, cracked The Billboard Top
200 chart reaching a respectable #72 position, but their wildly dynamic
heavy-Rock was ready to explode.
In October 1996, the band released their second album, "Life Is Peachy";
the record peaked at #3 on The Billboard Top 200 and cracked the top 40
in the U.K. while the band toured across Europe with Limp
Bizkit and Helmet.
Korn's audience continued to grow, during the second half of the '90s
as the group's third album, 1998's "Follow The Leader", climbed
to the top slot of The Billboard 200 chart and crashed into the top 5
of the British chart, it spawned two smash singles: "Got The Life"
made top 20 on both Modern and Mainstream Rock charts and "Freak
On A Leash" climbed into the top 10 in the same charts.
By the fall of 1999, the quintet released "Issues", another
strong commercial LP which shot to #1 on the U.S. Albums chart, the record
included two Modern Rock top 10 hit singles: "Falling Away From Me"
and "Make Me Bad".
Korn, after two-year break, rumors of crisis and solo projects, reconvened
to record a new album; "Untouchables" was released in mid-2002
and hit the top 3 of the North-American Albums charts; the first single,
"Here To Stay", peaked at #4 spots, the highest chart-position
that the band ever reached, on both Billboard's Rock charts, the track
also won a Grammy for Best Metal Performance; the second single, "Thoughtless",
reached the #6 position on The Mainstream Rock list; an international
tour with Puddle Of Mudd and TRUSTcompany
ensued, by this point "Untouchables" became a huge hit in Europe,
cracking the top 5 on the National U.K. Albums chart.
The next year saw the release of the band's sixth album: "Take A
Look In The Mirror", it rose straight to the top 10 of The Billboard
200 chart and generated four Active Rock smash singles including the #11
"Right Now", "Did My Time", "Ya'll Want A Single"
and "Everything I've Known".
Korn, in late 2004 issued a greatest hits compilation which debuted at
#4 on the U.S. Top 200 chart, the set featured two new cover-songs: Cameo's
"Word Up!" cracked both the top 20 of The Mainstream and Modern
Rock charts and Pink Floyd's "Another
Brick In The Wall" peaked at #12 on Billboard's Active Rock airplay
chart.
In February 2005 guitarist Brian 'Head' Welch, announced his departure
from Korn to concentrate on his Christian faith.
The band returned in the fall with, "See You On The Other Side",
their seventh studio record and their first album release on the Virgin
label; the CD which rose to #3 on The Billboard Top 200 chart yielded
three Hot Mainstream Rock top 20 singles including the #3 "Twisted
Transistor", the top 5 hit "Coming Undone" and "Politix".
"MTV Unplugged", which was recorded December 9, 2006 in New
York City at MTV's Times Square studio, was released in March 2007; the
CD, which peaked at #9 on The Billboard 200 list, features acoustic performances
of the band's greatest hits, along with several new songs exclusive to
their unplugged performance. Korn is also joined by The
Cure and Amy Lee of Evanescence
for this one time only performance; the first single off the CD, "Freak
On A Leash", featuring Amy Lee, hit the top 30 on both Modern and
Active Rock charts.
Korn' eighth fully original studio album, "Untitled", followed
in July; the set includes the Hot Mainstream Rock smash single "Evolution".
