The Grunge Punk-Rock female quartet L7 was formed in Los Angeles, California USA, in the mid-'80s by guitarists+singers Suzi Gardner and Donita Sparks, the two soon teamed-up with bassist Jennifer Finch; by a process of trial and error they finally completed the line-up with drummer Demetra 'Dee' Plakas.

During the next few years, the group quickly built up a dedicated following through constant touring, sometimes supporting names such as Bad Religion and in 1988 signed for Epitaph Records who released the L7's eponymous debut album.
One year later, the band issued "Smell The Magic" on Sub Pop Records, an album which showcased strong melodies and Grunge-oriented sound.
In the spring of 1992, L7 released its best-known album, "Bricks Are Heavy", the record was produced by Butch Vig, who also produced Nirvana's "Nevermind"; it debuted at #1 on the Billboard Magazine's Top Heatseekers chart and generated the Modern Rock top 10 hit single, "Pretend We're Dead"; the track "Shitlist" was chosen for the Oliver Stone film "Natural Born Killers" and their third album finally gave them commercial success reaching #160 on The Billboard 200 Sales chart.
Two years later the girls returned with "Hungry For Stink", peaking at #117 on The Billboard 200; the record included the single "Andres" which climbed into the top 20 of The Modern Rock chart. Touring the world countless times, L7 also graced the main-stage of Lollapalooza in 1994.
By 1996, Jennifer Finch decided to go back to school, the subsequent album, "The Beauty Process: Triple Platinum", recorded with bass player Gail Greenwood, didn't rise higher than #172 on The Billboard Top 200.
Following the release of the live-set "Live: Omaha To Osaka", in the summer of 1999, L7, issued an independent album titled "Slap-Happy".

Donita Sparks with her new backing band The Stellar Moments, featuring Dee Plakas on drums, completed a U.S. tour with The Donnas in October 2007 and she releases her solo debut, "Transmiticate", on her own label SparksFly Records on February 19, 2008.
