LCD Soundsystem is the Dance Electro-Rock project headed up by James
Murphy, co-founder of New York's DFA Records and one half of the city's
very relevant DFA production team.
Murphy's first release under the LCD Soundsystem moniker was the 2002
single "Losing My Edge"; "Give It Up" followed a year
later; "Yeah" and "Movement" appeared in 2004 setting
the stage for the release of the first album, an eponymous double CD which
was released in June 2005, it reached #5 on the Billboard's Top Electronic
Albums chart.
In March 2007 James Murphy serves up another stiff cocktail of Dance,
Punk and alt-Rock with "Sound Of Silver"; the record shot to
#1 on the U.S. Top Electronic Albums list and made it into The Billboard
200 Sales chart. The first single lifted off the album is the infectious
"North American Scum". In the studio, LCD Soundsystem is just
Murphy and his multifarious musical, vocal and production skills; but,
onstage, LCD Soundsystem is a quintet of similarly Funk, Punk and art-obsessed
friends, featuring Phil Mossman on guitar, Nancy Whang on keyboards, Tyler
Pope on bass and Pat Mahoney on drums.
