The Alternative-Rock Ska-Punk outfit Less Than Jake formed in Gainesville,
Florida USA, in 1992, originally as a trio of vocalist+guitarist Chris
Demakes, bassist Shaun and drummer Vinnie; when Shaun became the group's
roadie, he was replaced by Roger and the band's line-up expanded with
the addition trombone player Buddy 'Goldfinger', alto saxophone player
Jessica Mills and baritone saxophone player Aaron.
Their debut full-length disc, "Pezcore", was released in 1994,
followed a year later by another indie-album, "Losers, Kings, And
Things We Don't Understand".
The band amassed over 30 singles and EPs, in their first four years of
existence, including "Greased" which featured eight cover versions
of songs from the "Grease" soundtrack.
In 1996, Less Than Jake signed with Capitol Records who released "Losing
Streak" that November, the record entered the top 20 of Billboard
Magazine's Heatseekers Albums chart.
Two years later, with Chris, Vinnie, Roger, Buddy and Derron as baritone-sax
player, while Jessica had left, was released the band's fifth album, "Hello
Rockview", it reached the #80 spot on The Billboard 200 chart and
included "History Of A Boring Town" which cracked the top 40
of The Modern Rock Tracks chart.
In fall 2000, Less Than Jake issued "Borders & Boundaries"
via Fat Wreck Chords returning to its indie roots, the album hit #103
on The Billboard Top 200 list.
Two and a half years laters, with "Anthem" the band rose to
#45 in the United States, their best chart-placing to date; the album
included the Modern Rock top 40 hit single track, "The Science Of
Selling Yourself Short".
Less Than Jake returned in May 2006 with "In With The Out Crowd";
it reached the #78 spot on The Billboard Top 200 Albums but the lead single,
"Overrated (Everything Is)", failed to pick up national airplay.
