Alternative-Rock quartet founded in 1990 in Orange County, California
USA by brothers A. Jay Popoff on vocals, Jeremy Popoff on guitars and
their high-school friends bassist Kevin Baldes and drummer Allen Shellenberger.
The band quickly created a buzz in the local scene and after years of
live shows they released in fall 1996 the first independent 5-track EP
entitled "Five Smokin' Tracks From Lit"; the next year saw the
release of their debut full-length disc, "Tripping The Light Fantastic".
Not long after the band was signed to RCA Records, who released their
sophomore "A Place In The Sun", in early 1999; the string of
Modern Rock smash singles, which incuded the #1 "My Own Worst Enemy",
the #3 "Miserable" and the top 20 "Zip-Lock", helped
the album rise to #31 on The Billboard Top 200 chart; the group supported
the release by touring with The Offspring,
No Doubt and Garbage.
Lit's third effort, 2001's "Atomic", became an instant top 40
hit in U.S. Top 200 chart highlighted by three fresh Modern Rock hit singles:
"Over My Head", "Addicted" and the top 10 "Lipstick
And Bruises".
The foursome split from RCA and returned in mid-2003 with their eponymous
album which failed to match the chart success of the band's previous releases,
the single "Looks Like They Were Right" scraped the lower regions
of The Modern Rock Tracks chart.
