The Hard-Rock Funk-Metal outfit Living Colour started in the mid-'80s in New York City, New York USA, with Corey Glover on vocals, Vernon Reid on guitar, Muzz Skillings on bass and Will Calhoun on drums. At that time, while few heavy-Rock bands were comprised of all black members, with Mick Jagger's help, the quartet signed with Epic Rerords.

In May 1988 Living Colour had a phenomenal debut on The Billboard 200, in fact their first album, "Vivid", hit #6 while the main single, "Cult Of Personality", peaked at #9 on The Mainstream Rock airplay chart, scaled the The Billboard Hot 100, eventually peaking at #13 and earned the band a Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance. The album produced two more smashes with The American Top 40 hit "Glamour Boys" and "Open Letter (To A Landlord)" which crawled to #11 on the Billboard's Rock radio chart.

Two years later, the New York quartet churned out their sophomore album, "Time's Up", it also was a success, although its numbers didn't match those of "Vivid". The new record peaked at #13 on The Billboard Top 200 Albums chart highlighted by the Modern Rock top 10 hits "Type" and "Love Rears Its Ugly Head" as well as the dance club hit "Elvis Is Dead". "Time's Up" finally won Living Colour its second Grammy Awards for Best Hard Rock Performance.

Released in conjunction with the inaugural Lollapalooza tour in 1991, which Living Colour was part of, along with Jane's Addiction, the 6-song EP "Biscuits" collected outtakes from the "Time's Up" sessions, live tracks and two covers including James Brown's "Talkin' Loud And Sayin' Nothing" which debuted at #12 on The Modern Rock chart. Shortly after, Skillings and the rest of the band decided to part company.

Two years later, Living Colour regrouped with session ace Doug Wimbish on bass and recorded "Stain" before calling it quits. Released in March 1993 "Stain" performed respectably on The Billboard Top 200 Albums chart peaking at #23 and launching the Modern Rock #4 hit "Leave It Alone" and a further alt-Rock radio top 20 entrant with "Nothingness".

Frontman Corey Glover released his solo debut, "Hymns", in 1998 but he reunited with his Living Colour chums in 2001 for a tour which led to a new album "Collideøscope". It was released in October 2003 through Sanctuary Records to little acclaim.

In September 2009, Living Colour returned with "The Chair In The Doorway", its Megaforce Records debut and fifth studio album overall.
