Hailing from Melbourne, AUSTRALIA, the beginning of this Punk-Rock trio can be traced back to 1994; it was there that then-high school students singer+guitarist & songwriter Chris Cheney and upright bass player Scott Owen along with drummer Joe Piriptzi started playing Rockabilly covers in their hometown under the name of The Runaway Boys.

In 1995 they re-named the band to The Living End and released their first 8-track EP of original material, "Hellbound", which created enough buzz to finance a second EP, 1996's "It's For Your Own Good" and they also earned an opening slot on the Green Day Australian tour.
Not long after drummer Travis Dempsey replaced Piriptzi and the band gained national exposure with the song "From Here On In".
In 1998, the Melbourne collective released their self-titled full-length disc on major labeles, it peaked at #1 on the Australian Albums chart reaching ARIA certified quintuple platinum; the lead single, "Prisoner Of Society", hit the top 5 at home and peaked at #23 on the American Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart; the second single, "Save The Day", was a moderate hit. The trio also toured throughout Canada, USA, Europe and Japan in support of the album.
The Living End issued its second album, "Roll On", in early 2001; the record yielded two Australian top 20 hit singles, "Pictures In The Mirror" and the title-track, the latter of which reached #33 on the U.S. Modern Rock chart; that same year the threesome supported AC/DC on their Australian tour and Green Day across U.S. and Canada.
The group was beginning to think about their next album when in September 2001 Cheney was involved in a near fatal car accident; the news got even worse with Travis Dempsey decided to pursue other interests and parted company with the band early in 2002. Cheney was in rehab for months, he and Owen finally hired Andy Strachan as their new drummer and in October 2003 this revamped line-up released "Modern Artillery"; it included three singles, "One Said To The Other" which hit the top 20 in their native Australia, "Who's Gonna Save Us?" reached the #26 position on the U.S. Modern Rock Tracks chart and "Tabloid Magazine" failed to chart.

The Living End returned once more in March 2006 with its new album "State Of Emergency"; the set brought them to the top of the Australian chart while the first single, "What's On Your Radio?", hit the top 10.
