This highly original and melodic Alternative-Rock trio was formed in New York City, New York USA, in the mid-'90s when singer + guitarist & songwriter John Wozniak and bassist Dylan Keefe from Minneapolis with Ohio native Dan Rieser on drums, decided to start a band.

After spending months writing original music and recording, the band hit the stage and began playing live shows opening for Toad The Wet Sprocket. During that time, Marcy Playground inked a deal with Columbia Records, which released their eponymous debut album in February 1997, the band then exploded onto the scene with the insanely irresistible hit single "Sex And Candy", a song that notched an impressive fifteen consecutive weeks at #1 on The Modern Rock Tracks chart; in early 1998 the single entered the top 10 of The Billboard Hot 100 and pushed the album to #21 on The Billboard Top 200. Their self-titled first LP went on to sell 1.7 million copies and yielded two more singles "Sherry Fraser" and "Saint Joe On The School Bus", the latter of wich peaked at #8 on The Modern Rock chart.

Released in late 1999, "Shapeshifter", largely failed to become a platinum-seller hit on the level of the debut disc and only one single, "It's Saturday", managed to crack the top 30 of The Modern Rock chart.

After an extended break, the band returned to action in the fall of 2003 with a new drummer in the line-up Gonzalo Martinez De La Cotera, who replaced Rieser; the single "Deadly Handsome Man" preceded the release of the long awaited third album: "MP3".

With the release of "Leaving Wonderland...In A Fit Of Rage", Marcy Playground are itching to get back on the road to both reconnect with their loyal audience and attract new fans. Joining Wozniak and Keefe is new drummer, Shlomi Lavie. The new album, which is due out on July 7, 2009, includes the single "Blackbird".
