Matthew Good was born June 29, 1971, in Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA.
He began his career as a Folk singer+guitarist, backed by a cellist, violinist
and pianist, Good independently released two cassettes, 1993's "Broken"
and 1994's "Euphony" on his own Black Spinning Disks, before
the Alternative-Rock movement inspired him to move in a different musical
direction.
He left his group behind, moved to Vancouver and in 1995, recruiting
keyboardist+guitarist Dave Genn, bassist Geoff Lloyd and drummer Ian Browne,
Good assembled one of Canada's most successful Alternative-Rock outfits,
Matthew Good Band, throughout the '90s until their split in 2001.
The group's 1995 independent album, "Last Of The Ghetto Astronauts",
quickly sold 20,000 copies.
In May 1997 the band released the 5-song EP "Raygun" to maintain
its fan base and the following October Matthew Good Band delivered their
sophomore effort, "Underdogs"; it spawned three Canadian top
5 hit singles, "Everything Is Automatic", "Indestructible"
and "Apparitions".
When the tour behind "Underdogs" wrapped up, Good immediately
returned to the studio to record "Beautiful Midnight", the songs
for which he wrote two months after "Underdogs" was released.
The group's third full-length disc, recorded with new bass player Rich
Priske, shot to #1 on the Top Canadian Albums chart upon its September
1999 release; three songs, "09:00 P.M. Load Me Up", "07:00
P.M. Strange Days" and "06:00 P.M. Hello Time Bomb" were
top 5 Canadian Rock-radio singles, the latter of which also charted in
the top 40 of the U.S. Modern Rock Tracks, a year later.
The fourth and final album from Matthew Good Band, "The Audio Of
Being", arrived in late 2001 reaching #4 in Canada.
Despite the success, Good has maintained his reputation as the bad
boy of Canadian rock. His quotations have been publicized just as
much as his music.
In March 2003 Matthew Good released his first solo album, "Avalanche";
the disc went straight to #2 on the Top Canadian Albums chart on the back
of his top 5 hit single "In A World Called Catastrophe" and
the Juno award-winning video for "Weapon".
His second solo outing, "White Light Rock & Roll Review",
was released in June 2004; the album managed to net him a #4 hit in his
homeland but failed to generate a hit single.
"Hospital Music", Matthew Good's seventh album overall, was
inspired by his divorce, his battle with bipolar disorder and his eventual
overdose. The set which features a new batch of originals plus two covers
came out in mid-2007 peaking at #1 on Top Canadian Albums chart; the main
sigle, "Born Losers", became an instant hit at Rock radio and
was followed by "I'm A Window".
