Since they formed in December 2007, the members of Mumford & Sons,
four young men from West London, ENGLAND, in their early twenties have
shared a love of Folk-Rock, Country and Bluegrass. Vocalist + guitarist
& drummer Marcus Mumford, vocalist + banjo & dobro player Winston
Marshall -- AKA Country Winston --, vocalist + keyboardist Ben Lovett
and vocalist + double-bass player Ted Dwane toured extensively throughout
2008; from a barge-tour of the Thames with eight other acts, through to
an island-hopping tour of the Scottish highlands and a triumphant set
at Glastonbury in June, they sold out London's Luminaire in July, only
half a year after they got together.
A trilogy of 10-inch EPs all on Chess Club Records followed, recorded
simply at home. Their eponymous EP debuted the same month as their Luminaire
show; "Love Your Ground" followed in December, while "The
Cave And The Open Sea" arrived in May 2009.
Then came the time to record their debut full-length album. The disc titled
"Sigh No More" was issued in October on Island Records; it peaked
at #7 on the U.K. Albums chart and spawned the top 40 hit "Little
Lion Man" which became a big smash in Australia where it climbed
into the top 3 and helped send the album to #1 on the ARIA chart. In February
2010 "Sigh No More" was released in North America breaking into
the upper half of The Billboard Top 200 Albums list and the lead single,
the aforementioned "Little Lion Man", managed to crack the top
40 of the Alternative Songs chart.
