This Industrial Alternative-Metal band started as a side-project in 1993
in Cleveland, Ohio USA, originally comprising lead vocalists Jeffrey Nothing
and J Mann, guitarists Dinner and J.J. Rightous, bassist Mr. Murdernickle,
keyboardist Schmotz, sample provider DJ Virus and drummer Skinny, legal
name Steve Felton.
The intention was to create an eclectic blend of extreme music combined
with theatrical show, in fact, all members of the group wore black or
gas masks on stage; Mushroomhead soon made an impact on the local scene
and released their self-titled debut album in 1995, originally available
only at shows, the record was re-issued in 2002 with different cover-art.
During the second half the '90s, the band experienced several changes
in membership: Gravy, real name Dave Felton and Bronson replaced the original
guitarists, Pig Benis stepped in and took over on bass for Mr. Murdernickle,
Stitch replaced DJ Virus; the group released two more independent albums,
"Superbuick" in 1996 and "M3" three years later.
After performing a series of live concerts including opening shows for
Marilyn Manson, Mushroomhead recorded
in 2001 "XX", which was first issued independently and re-released
via Universal Records that same year, this album smashed into the Billboard's
Top Heatseekers chart at #6.
Two years later, "XIII" debuted on The Billboard Top 200 Albums
chart at #40, while the first single, "Sun Doesn't Rise" appeared
on "Freddy Vs. Jason" soundtrack.
In September 2006 Mushroomhead released its sixth studio record, "Savior
Sorrow ".
