The Nightwatchman was created by a Harvard graduate and Grammy Award-winning
guitarist Tom Morello in 2003. Morello was born on May 30, 1964 in New
York City's Harlem district, USA; as a teenager, he became infatuated
with both Rock music and politics. In the late '80s, upon graduation,
Morello relocated to the Los Angeles area, where he teamed up with Zach
de la Rocha, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk to form Rage
Against The Machine. Shortly before the release of the fourth album,
2000's "Renegades", de la Rocha left the band due to internal
conflicts; Morello and the rest of the Rage members enlisted the services
of former Soundgarden frontman Chris
Cornell, forming Audioslave.
Morello has also worked with artists as diverse as Indigo
Girls, The Crystal Method, Anti-Flag
and The Prodigy; in 2003 he formed the
non-profit organization Axis Of Justice with Serj Tankian of System
Of A Down to bring together musicians, fans of music and grassroots
political organizations to fight for social justice.
Tom Morello has performed as The Nightwatchman for four years at political
events and on "Tell Us The Truth" tour.
Morello will release his first Nightwatchman album, called "One Man
Revolution", on April 24; the 13-track set sports acoustic-based
compositions that are a far cry from the heavy guitar Rock he has purveyed
in Rage Against The Machine
and Audioslave.
