Adam Young, the creative force behind the Electro-Rock project Owl City,
grew up in the Minnesota, USA, town, with roughly twenty-two thousand
inhabitants, called Owatonna. He picked up his first guitar in junior
high school and later learned the basics on keyboards and synths.
Back in June of 2007, at the age of 21 Adam Young put a self-released
CD up on MySpace. Word of mouth began to spread for Young's music, with
demands coming from various parts of the country for an album.
"Maybe I'm Dreaming", released in March of 2008, was Owl City's
full-length debut. The album has garnered great critical praise and is
a clear representation of Owl City's progression as an artist. Adam Young
has become a phenomenon on MySpace with over 6 million profile views and
over 25 million plays, which is outstanding in such a short span of time.
The disc ended up peaking at #16 on the Billboard's Top Electronic Albums
chart.
Owl City's sophomore release, "Ocean Eyes", arrived in July
2009 debuting in the top 30 of The Billboard 200 Albums chart while the
lead single, "Fireflies", also hit the top 30 of The Alternative
chart.
