Born on July 27, 1974, in Montville, New Jersey USA, Pete Yorn taught
himself to play his older brother's drum kit at the age of 9 and was learning
the guitar by the time he was 12; after a talent show at his New Jersey
high school in 1990, Yorn had stepped up to the vocal duties and began
writing his own material. Relocating in Los Angeles, after various jobs including bank teller and production assistant, in 2000 Pete Yorn began writing music for the TV show "Dawson's Creek" and for the movie soundtrack of "Me, Myself And Irene". He eventually landed a contract with Columbia Records who released his debut album, "Musicforthemorningafter", in March 2001; the South Jersey singer + songwriter hit the road in support, sharing bills with bands like Foo Fighters, Coldplay, R.E.M. and others. The record peaked at #1 on the Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart and reached the #111 position on The Billboard 200 Sales list spawning the Modern Rock top 30 hit "For Nancy ('Cos It Already Is)", "Life On A Chain" which cracked the Adult Top 40 airplay chart and another Modern Rock top 40 hit and arguably, his most popular song: "Strange Condition". "Day I Forgot", his eagerly-awaited successor to "Musicforthemorningafter", was released in April 2003 to widespread critical acclaim and debuted at #18 on The Billboard Top 200 Albums chart; the first single off the CD, "Come Back Home", reached #32 on The Modern Rock chart. In August 2006 Pete Yorn issued "Nightcrawler", the third and final CD in a series that opens and closes a day in the life. However, it was less successful than the New Jersey-bred artist's previous releases and barely scraped the top 50 of The Billboard 200; the first single, "For Us" which features Dave Grohl on drums, didn't rise higher than #38 on The Modern Rock chart and the follow-up, the '60s Folk-inflected "Alive", failed to dent the charts. June 2009 saw the release of "Back & Fourth"; the 10-song set marks a new musical chapter in which Yorn has taken a different approach to writing and recording, it is his first album to feature heavy contributions from a backing band. The CD opens up with the delicate lead single "Don't Wanna Cry". Back in 2006, Pete Yorn contacted actress and Atco recording artist Scarlett Johansson with the idea to record a duets album in the spirit of Serge Gainsbourg's '60s recordings with Brigitte Bardot. On September 15, 2009, Atco Records, an imprint of Rhino Entertainment, presents the resulting work, Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson "Break Up", a deeply emotive yet hook-filled song cycle about a tempestuous relationship. The set includes the lilting opener and single, "Relator".
