Groove-based guitar riffs combined with hard rocking danceable drumbeats
is the particular style of Electro-Rock created by Phoenix, a band formed
in Versailles, FRANCE, in the late '90s by lead singer Thomas Mars, guitarist
+ keyboardist Laurent Brancowitz, guitarist + drummer Christian Mazzalai
and bassist + keyboardist Deck D'Arcy.
In 2000, the group released their first album, "United", which
contained the European minor hit single "If I Ever Feel Better".
"Alphabetical" was Phoenix's sophomore album, trailing their
debut by nearly four years. The disc charted on the Scandinavian top 10.
"It's Never Been Like That" followed in May 2006, this was
the band's first album that broke the top 40 in their native France.
Exactly three years later, in May 2009, Phoenix issued its fourth effort,
"Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix", which proved to be their most commercially
successful album, earning much international attention from fans and critics
alike. For instance, the main single, "1901", managed to enter
the U.S. Hot Modern Rock Tracks and the album itself hit the top 20 in
France, Canada and Australia.
