Founded in the late '80s in Brisbane, Queensland AUSTRALIA, the Alternative-Rock combo Powderfinger began as a three-piece band with lead singer + guitarist Bernard Fanning, guitarist + vocalist Ian Haug and bassist John Collins, along the way adding two more members, guitarist + keyboardist Darren Middleton and drummer Jon Coghill.

Since its inception, the quintet has toured extensively, performing Hard-Rock live shows at local clubs and in April 1993 they released their first independent eponymous EP, this was then followed by another EP titled "Transformer" which led to a recording contract with Polydor Records.

In early 1994 the band played at the Big Day Out festival along with such established bands as The Smashing Pumpkins, Screaming Trees and Soundgarden. That June they came out with their debut album titled "Parables For Wooden Ears", it featured three singles "Tail", "Grave Concern" and "Save Your Skin".
The next year, while the fanbase began to build, Powderfinger recorded the 5-track EP "Mr Kneebone".

Their second full-length disc, "Double Allergic", was issued in September of 1996 and quickly reached the top 10 of the Australian Albums chart and snagged double-platinum certification; it also spawned three mid-sized hits in "Pick You Up", "D.A.F" and "Living Type".

Two years later, Powderfinger's third album exceeded all expecations and became their best work to date, it enjoyed 100-week chart run in the ARIA Top 100 reaching the #1 position and eventually was certified quadruple-platinum. "Internationalist" generated four singles: "The Day You Come", the double A-side "Good-Day Ray / Don't Wanna Be Left Out", "Already Gone" and "Passenger"; the following year the group won four ARIA Awards including Song Of The Year for "The Day You Come", Best Rock Album and Album Of The Year.

2000's "Odyssey Number Five" cemented their popularity going straight to #1 on the Australian Albums chart and became their first major overseas success; they spent two years touring it, including a full year in North America. The first single, "My Happiness", entered the top 40 of the U.S. Modern Rock chart at #23 and hit #4 in their native country; another two song stormed the Australian Singles chart: "Like A Dog" and "The Metre". In 2001 the band won five ARIAs: Album Of The Year, Best Group, Best Cover Art, Highest Selling Australian Album and "My Happiness", won for Song Of The Year.

The Aussie rockers' fifth studio record, "Vulture Street", arrived in mid-2003 becoming the third consecutive #1 album in their homeland highlighted by the top 10 hit "(Baby I've Got You) On My Mind". The follow-up single, "Love Your Way", hit the top 40 and "Sunsets" climbed into the top 20 peaking at #11.

Powderfinger recorded, their next LP, "Dream Days At The Hotel Existence" at Studio 1 in Los Angeles, it's the first time the band have created an album outside of Australia. The CD, which was released in June 2007, debuted at #1 on The ARIA Albums chart producing a top 10 hit in the single "Lost And Running" and one more minor hit with "Nobody Sees".

In January 2009 the quintet commenced writing material for the next album, "Golden Rule". They decided to record at Studio 301 in Byron Bay and mix at Studio 301 in Sydney. Powderfinger has targeted November 13, 2009, for the release of "Golden Rule", the new album contains the single "All Of The Dreamers".
