The Boston, Massachusetts USA-based Alternative-Metal act Powerman 5000
was formed in the early '90s by lead singer Spider One, younger brother
of Rob Zombie, guitarists Mike 'M.33'
Tempesta and Adam 12, bassist Dorian Heartsong and drummer Alan Pahanish.
The group made debut in the underground Metal scene in 1994 with the
7-track EP called "True Force", released on Curve Of The Earth
Records.
They quickly built a following in the East Coast through their incendiary
live performances and in 1995 put out a second indie release, the full-lenght
album "The Blood Splat Rating System".
The buzz eventually leading to a deal with DreamWorks Records who issued
"Mega!! Kung Fu Radio" in early 1997, this album was essentially
a re-packaging of the band's previous full-lenght disc.
With the 1999's "Tonight The Stars Revolt", Powerman 5000 climbed
The Billboard Top 200 Albums chart reaching the #29 slot; it featured
guest appearances by Spider's brother, Rob
Zombie, Limp Bizkit's DJ Lethal
and Marilyn Manson's Ginger Fish;
the first single, "When Worlds Collide", smashed into the top
20 of both Mainstream and Modern Rock charts; "Nobody's Real"
also hit the top 20 of the Active Rock tracks chart and helped to push
the album up to platinum status.
The following year they toured extensively with Metallica
and Korn and contributed the song "Ultra
Mega" to the NuMetal-soundtrack of the movie "Dracula 2000";
the single barely sneaked into the top 40 of The Mainstream Rock chart.
Their next CD, "Anyone For Doomsday?", was released in August
of 2001, it included the single "Bombshell" which didn't rise
higher than #26 on The Mainstream Rock chart and the album never cracked
the U.S. Top 200 chart; before the year's end, Powerman 5000, lost their
rhythm section of Heartsong and Pahanish.
The remaining members planned on continuing on, bringing aboard bassist
Siggy Sjursen and drummer Adrian Ost; during summer 2002 the renewed band
appeared on the multi-band touring festival called Locobazooka, sharing
the stage with the likes of Sevendust,
Static-X and Nonpoint.
the quintet returned in May 2003 with "Transform", the record
peaked at #27 on The Billboard Top 200 Albums chart spawning "Free"
which soared to #10 on The Mainstream Rock Tracks list their best chart-placing
to date, the second single, "Action", peaked at #27 in the same
chart.
Powerman 5000 are back with their new record, "Destory What You
Enjoy"; the CD, which was released on August 1st, includes the single
"Wild World".
