Identical twins Charlie and Craig Reid were born in 1962, they began
to perform as a Folk-Rock duo in Edinburgh, SCOTLAND in the mid-'80s;
singing in thick Scottish accents backed with acoustic guitars, they soon
garnered a a loyal and faithful following.
Chrysalis Records signed them in early 1987 and The Proclaimers released
its debut, "This Is The Story", that same year, the album eventually
went gold thanks in part to the single "Letter From America"
which topped out at #3 on the U.K. Pop chart.
Their sophomore album, "Sunshine On Leith", arrived in August
1988, it reached platinum status in Britain, Canada and New Zealand and
triple platinum in Australia and also hit #31 on the American Billboard
Top 200 list; the record featured the infectious hit "I'm Gonna Be
(500 Miles)" which crashed into the top 10 of the Billboard's Modern
Rock chart, but it wasn't until 1993, when the track was included on the
"Benny And Joon" soundtrack, did "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)"
become a hit in the States, the song eventually peaked at #3 on The Billboard
Hot 100.
In the fall of 1990 the duo unleashed the 4-track EP entitled "King
Of The Road" and the classic song with the same name became a top
10 hit in Europe.
The Reid brothers followed with "Hit The Highway", before putting
music on hold for seven years to spend time with their families, The Proclaimers'
third effort released in March 1994, included only one U.K top 20 hit,
"Let's Get Married".
In May 2001 the band resurfaced with "Persevere"
and took to the road for over 100 gigs in the U.K. and North America.
The following year was released the collection "The Best Of...",
which included three new songs.
September 2003 saw the release of the duo's fifth album of all-new-material,
"Born Innocent".
The Proclaimers released its new record, "Restless Soul", on
8th August 2005, the album's title-track is the first single off of the
CD.
