The Christian Pop-Punk outfit Relient K was formed in Canton, Ohio USA,
in 1998; in the beginning, vocalist+guitarist & pianist Matt Thiessen,
lead guitarist Matthew Hoopes, bassist Brian Pittman and drummer David
Douglas, just wanted to play local shows but two years later the band
was picked-up by Gotee Records.
In the spring of 2000, Relient K came out with their self-titled debut
LP and even though it earned the group a Billboard Video Music Award nomination,
it wasn't the album that moved the band from locally known to nationally
known.
Their 2001 follow-up, "The Anatomy Of The Tongue In Cheek",
was the group's breakthrough; the 17-track set hit #6 on Billboard's Top
Contemporary Christian Albums chart and also became their first Billboard
Top 200 entry at #158.
Relient K resurfaced two years later with their third effort, "Two
Lefts Don't Make A Right ...But Three Do", another solid outing which
climbed into the top 40 of The Billboard 200 chart.
The Ohio foursome released "MMHMM" in November 2004, going straight
to #1 on Top Christian Albums chart, the CD also crossed over to Billboard's
Top 200 reaching #15 and spawned a couple of Hot 100 minor hits, "Be
My Escape" and "Who I Am Hates Who I've Been". Despite
all this, founding bassist Brian Pittman left the band, he was replaced
by John Warne.
Relient K is now a five-piece band with an extra guitarist, John Schneck,
which allows vocalist+songwriter Matt Thiessen a chance to play piano
from time to time.
In March 2007, Gotee Records/Capitol released "Five Score And Seven
Years Ago", Relient K's fifth album in seven years. The exuberant
"Must Have Done Something Right" is the first single off the
CD.
